One of the many challenges faced by the rural Guatemalan schools is the lack of educational materials and books. One significant project developed to address this need was spearheaded by member Vera Derk.  It’s called the “Literacy Program”.  The program provides quality pieces of children's literature in Spanish to all children for ownership.  Since inception,  the program has distributed over 100,000 books at a value of over one million dollars.  In addition to the book donations, BCOIA has donated educational supplies and materials valued at over $85,000.

BCOIA is organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes within the meaning

of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended,

or to any corresponding provision of any future federal tax law.
